HDMI cables have the capacity to support everything from standard definition (PAL or NTSC, for example) to high definition video formats such as 720p, 1080i and 1080p. These cables can even support 480p and other enhanced definition formats.
What is the latest version of HDMI cables, and should I buy it?
The latest specification is HDMI 1.4 cables, which were launched in May 2009. These are the best cables to get, as they offer many additional features such as the Ethernet channel, support for 3D, the Audio Return Channel (ARC) and support for higher resolution displays.
