The straight answer to this question is "No". BUT, consider the follow point and it might not be a bad idea after all to spend and invest a few extra pounds. There is the obvious reason - Quality. This should be underestimated. Manufactures go through great length. Oxide free copper, multiple shielding, gold plating, ferrite cores and high quality molded connectors and plugs. In return these cables offer less interference, less deterioration of the signal, easier installation and better ongoing user experience. Secondly, how often do you actually buy lets say a HDMI cable? Probably not that often! It's like buying a bed or mattress. For something that is use on a day-to-day bases over a long period the extra initial investment pays for itself.
