Find the best fit for you based on what you want out of your phone. Android smartphones have the best camera phones on the market and are setting the standard that other manufacturers are aiming for.
We've done the smartphone camera research for you and compiled a list of some of the best smartphone cameras on the market:
1. The Samsung Galaxy S8
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and its larger older brother come complete with an iterative camera that is similar to the one the Galaxy S7 had. It still has a 12MP sensors with 1.4-micron pixels and an f/11.7 lens.
All of these elements still make for a fantastic camera on a smartphone even as more smartphone cameras are released this year. However, while the camera might be the same the Samsung's processing software is not.
The Galaxy S8 can capture incredible photos in any given situation throughout your day. The smaller pixels in the photos and updated lens will make a great picture in even the darkest of scenes. The processor on the Samsung Galaxy S8 is a substantially more saturated and even-keeled than the S8, but offers photos that stand out to the eye.
The S8 comes with much more detailed oriented photos through increased sharpening technology, putting it leaps above the S7. The camera app itself on this Android smartphone is quick to open and operates smoothly from there. It has new shooting modes and fun, new features that enhance a user's experience with the phone.
The Galaxy S8 doesn't have many faults in terms of its photo taking capabilities. This Android smartphone camera is one of the best there is on the market. Its front-facing camera has an auto-focus that will quickly help you capture the moment without leaving your photo blurry when on-the-go.
2. The HTC U11
The HTC U11 is similar to the Galaxy S8 in that it has a 12MP sensor with 1.4-micron pixels and an f/1.7 lens. The HTC calls its lens "UltraPixel 3". This Android smartphone has a camera app that is much simpler and is similar to that of Google's.
The U11 has a camera that offers many advanced features and shooting modes. From high-speed hyperlapse video footage to a DxOMark Mobile score of a whopping 90, you can't go wrong with this phone. The phone doesn't offer filters to detract from your photos, either.
The HTC produces photos that compete with those from the top-end camera phones released this year. This camera sticks true to what you're shooting, however, they are reproduced with a little more clarity and sharpness.
The U11 is a great camera for practical day to day to use. It has fantastic photo quality and offers enough advanced features without getting too technical or overwhelming. Here's a hack: you can buy the phone unlocked from HTC or Amazon and it will work with many U.S. carriers.
3. Google Pixel for Best Android Smartphone Camera
Even though we've listed it at number three, this camera phone could easily lie at the number one spot. The quality and simplicity when in shooting mode on this phone is unparalleled.
Some camera phone experts have claimed this phone to have an average camera phone with a 12MP sensor and f/2.0 lens. It doesn't have the optical image stabilization, but the Google phone doesn't find that to be an issue.
The interface is simple and straightforward but has increased overall photo quality. With a simple point and shoot from even the most basic of Android smartphone photographers, you'll end up with a photo you love.
With great daylight shots that are clear, crisp, and appropriately exposed, you won't need to keep retaking the shot. The camera offers the perfect saturation and even low-light shots will come out brilliantly. The camera eliminates noise that others keep in the shot.
The Google Pixel even includes full-resolution photo backup through Google photos. Have peace of mind that your photos are safe even when you drop your Android smartphone in the ocean on your next boating trip.
This same camera also exists in a larger size with an even bigger battery in the Google Pixel XL. Though it's more expensive, some people don't mind paying more when they believe that bigger is better. Grab great cables and chargers and put your Pixel phone to work.
4. The Huawei P9
The Huawei P9 (often called the pocket DSLR) is a powerful smartphone camera. This high-quality camera is in large part due to the partnership it was created with, German manufacturer Leica. The smartphone camera even includes a dual camera setup.
Both cameras offer 12MP resolution and include f/2.2 apertures. While that may not seem leaps and bounds above the other camera phones we've listed here, the proof is in the photo pudding. With an 8MP selfie snapper and f/2.4 aperture, even your selfies will shine like the best of them on Instagram.
The phone has a "Professional Mode" in its manual interface. You can adjust the shutter speed, white balance, and ISO within the camera app. You'll take sharp photos quickly with the quick double press of the volume down button.
One of the best Android smartphones on the market with a quality camera, the Huawei is a great option. It is also very reasonably priced at just $345.
5. Sony Xperia Z5
The Xperia Z5 has a great autofocus which functions at high speeds. It focuses on quick subjects, perfect for capturing your pet performing his best tricks. The slow-motion options shoot at 720p at 120 frames-per-second offering some of the best slow-mo video footage available through smartphone cameras that will look great on playback.
While it doesn't excel with the exact color hues, it does make up for it with its stabilization software. The contrast and saturation make for beautiful photos.
